Feature: Hugo & Sons (Brooklyn)

Tucked into Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York City, is a new cozy spot making waves: Hugo & Sons. The food, which is delicious, is both French- and Italian-inspired, and showcased through rotating breakfast, brunch, and dinner menus, as well as an attached pizzeria. The pizza is authentic, made with “00” flour from tender grain imported from Italy and fermented with local honey, then cooked in the Neopolitan tradition in an 800 + degree oven, topped with Fior di Latte mozzarella. (When our consultants visited, they sampled a pizza special which included a truffle-stuffed crust!)

More than just good food, Hugo & Sons also makes special considerations regarding the history of both the space and the Park Slope neighborhood. In a place like New York City, it can be difficult to create distinguishing characteristics; but respect for history and community are definite foundation blocks for success. Because Hugo & Sons' location is in a landmark building (previously a 40s-era butcher shop), founders took special caution to preserve original details such as exposed brick and tilework, carriage house doors, and the original store front signage. The interior is simple, but bold with big windows to see in and out, and comfortable bright red booths that wrap around the place. (See more photos of this comfortable but chic interior here.)
